3D Accident Recreation – Visitor Safety

Creating a video that informs visitors of the safety measurements at the mining site.

DTP, a leading provider of natural resource management and open-cast mining services, has built a strong reputation over the past two decades for delivering innovative, customised solutions across Africa and beyond. As part of their continued commitment to safety and operational excellence, we developed a Visitor Induction Video designed to educate site visitors on critical safety procedures before entering operational zones.

The video combined AI-generated voice-over, on-site b-roll, and realistic 3D accident recreation to create an informative, and visually educating induction experience. This approach ensured that all safety messages were clear and easily understood, regardless of language or background.

Project Objectives

The goal of the project was to create a accessible and comprehensive visitor induction tool that clearly communicated their safety culture while reflecting its professionalism and innovation in the mining sector.

Key objectives included:

  • Safety Orientation: Introduce visitors to essential site safety rules and procedures before entering high-risk areas.
  • Visual Clarity: Use real b-roll footage and 3D animation to illustrate potential hazards and correct safety practices.
  • Accessibility: Leverage an AI-generated voice-over for clarity, consistency, and adaptability across multilingual environments.
  • Real-World Relevance: Ground the training experience in their real operational context, featuring footage captured directly on-site.

Creative Process

Concept Development

The induction video needed to welcome visitors, establish trust, and clearly explain procedures for navigating active mining environments.

The narrative structure followed a logical flow, covering:

  1. Welcome & Introduction: Overview of operations, and safety-first culture.
  2. On-Site Protocols: Explanation of PPE requirements, hazard zones, and movement restrictions.
  3. Emergency Procedures: Step-by-step guidance for responding to incidents or alarms.
  4. 3D Accident Recreation: Realistic visualisation of potential safety incidents, demonstrating correct and incorrect behaviours.

Scriptwriting & AI Voice Integration

To maintain consistency and flexibility, we implemented an AI-generated voice-over for the narration. The AI voice was carefully selected for clarity, tone, and professionalism, ensuring it conveyed authority while remaining approachable. AI was also selected because it had to be delivered in 5 different languages. Using AI also allowed for easy localisation, enabling us to adapt the induction for multiple languages across their international operations.

Design, Filming, and Animation

The production combined on-site cinematography with 3D animation to create a realistic and relatable visual experience.

Filming:
Our crew captured b-roll footage on active mine sites, from engineering and blasting to haulage and equipment maintenance. The visuals provided an authentic backdrop for the induction, grounding the safety messaging in the company’s day-to-day environment.

3D Accident Recreation:
To reinforce safety awareness, we created high-quality 3D accident simulations illustrating common risk scenarios such as:

  • Working near open edges and heavy machinery.
  • Improper PPE use or movement in restricted areas.
  • Unsafe practices leading to slips, trips, or falls.

Each animation was designed to visually contrast unsafe behaviour with proper procedure, offering a clear educational takeaway.

Visual Style:

  • Corporate colours and branding aligned with their professional identity.
  • Clean motion graphics and animated overlays emphasised key safety instructions.
  • Subtle environmental effects (dust, machinery motion, lighting) added realism to the 3D scenes.

Execution

The final edit featured a seamless blend of on-site b-roll, motion graphics, and 3D recreation sequences. Each safety principle was introduced visually, explained through narration, and reinforced through real-world or simulated examples.

The pacing was deliberately structured for training efficiency, ensuring every concept was easy to follow, visually supported, and contextually grounded. The combination of real and animated content gave the video both authenticity and instructional clarity.

Results

The proposed Visitor Induction Video exemplified how we could use AI and 3D visualisation to modernise safety training approach while maintaining operational professionalism.

Projected outcomes included:

  • Improved Safety Awareness: Visitors gain a clear understanding of safety rules before entering any site.
  • Consistent Communication: AI voice-over ensures uniform delivery across languages and regional sites.
  • Engaging Experience: The combination of live footage and 3D scenarios keeps audiences focused and informed.

Conclusion

This project highlights the power of 3D visuals in industrial training environments.

By merging on-site realism with advanced animation, we demonstrated how DTP can effectively communicate its safety culture to all visitors. Ensuring understanding, compliance, and trust from the moment they arrive on site.

The video not only reflects DTP’s operational excellence but also embodies its commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainable progress in mining.
