Creating a Whiteboard Animation Video to Showcase a toddler and infant populations questionnaire .
The EuroQol Group is a network of international multidisciplinary researchers devoted to the measurement of health status across the world. They approached us to produce a custom Whiteboard Animation for the EuroQol Toddler and Infant Populations Questionnaire (EQ-TIPS), formerly known as the TANDI. EQ-TIPS serves as an outcome measure of health-related quality of life for children aged 0–3 years, collecting data across physical, mental, emotional, and social health in an age-appropriate manner.
The primary goal of this animation was to explain the purpose and importance of EQ-TIPS in a simple, engaging, and accessible way. Encouraging participation and data collection while maintaining the professional and research-driven tone of EuroQol’s mission.
Project Objectives
The main objective of this project was to create a bespoke Whiteboard Animation video that simplifies the concepts behind EQ-TIPS and motivates people of all backgrounds to engage with it.
Key objectives included:
- Simplifying Complex Concepts: Clearly explaining how EQ-TIPS works and its importance in understanding early childhood health and development.
- Encouraging Participation: Inspiring parents and caregivers to contribute to the project by making the information user-friendly and approachable.
- Enhancing Accessibility: Ensuring the animation could be easily understood and shared globally, using simple visuals and inclusive design.
- Promoting Engagement: Using interactive elements such as QR codes and call-to-actions to guide viewers to additional resources and participation portals.
The Creative Process
Our creative process was grounded in research, design precision, and educational storytelling. Every step of production, from scripting to final animation, was conducted in-house to ensure creative control and consistency with the brand’s goals.
Client Consultation
We conducted multiple consultation sessions with the EuroQol team to understand their research objectives, target demographics, and communication needs. The discussions centered on how to make complex medical and psychological concepts digestible for a general audience without oversimplifying the science behind EQ-TIPS.
Research and Storyboarding
Our research phase focused on understanding the structure and intended use of EQ-TIPS, its connection to health outcomes, and its importance in pediatric data collection. The storyboard visually mapped the journey of a young child’s health development, using symbolic representations for the key indicators of physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Script Development
The script was crafted to be clear, empathetic, and educational, ensuring that both parents and professionals could easily grasp the message. Written in-house, it balanced professional accuracy with conversational tone. The script emphasized inclusivity, highlighting how EQ-TIPS benefits families across different cultures and circumstances.
Design and Animation
This was a fully custom-designed Whiteboard Animation, meaning that every visual element, illustrations, icons, and character designs, was drawn from scratch by our team.
The clean, minimal whiteboard aesthetic allowed us to focus attention on key ideas while maintaining a professional yet friendly look. The animation style was intentionally simple and direct, allowing visual metaphors to carry the story without clutter or distraction.
Interactive visual elements such as QR codes and call-to-action prompts were integrated into the storyboard to connect viewers directly with the EQ-TIPS resources, enhancing participation and accessibility.
Voiceover and Sound Design
The narration was recorded in-house by one of our team members, providing a warm and approachable tone while keeping costs efficient for the client. By reallocating the budget typically used for an external voice artist, we were able to expand the scope of custom illustrations and visual enhancements.
Sound effects were selectively layered to draw attention to transitions and highlight key data points, while the background score maintained a calm and optimistic atmosphere suitable for the sensitive nature of child health research.

Execution
During production, our focus was on ensuring that the visual, auditory, and narrative components worked harmoniously to deliver a smooth and engaging flow.
Animation Production
Each scene was animated with careful timing to match the pace of the narration, ensuring that viewers could easily follow along with the unfolding visuals. Using the whiteboard technique of “draw-as-you-go,” the animation revealed concepts progressively. This is ideal for simplifying layered ideas such as health outcomes and measurement systems.
The composition utilized layered depth to create motion and interest, while maintaining the classic whiteboard clarity. Subtle visual cues like hand-drawn arrows, icons, and character gestures helped reinforce key points without overwhelming the viewer.
Client Reviews
We worked closely with the EuroQol team throughout production, incorporating their feedback at every stage, from early sketches to the final rendered animation. This ensured scientific accuracy, brand alignment, and effective communication of EQ-TIPS’ purpose.
Final Edits and Polishing
The final stage focused on refining pacing, syncing transitions, and ensuring the tone was both scientifically credible and emotionally inviting. Color grading and final audio balancing were performed to enhance consistency and viewer comfort.

Results
The completed Whiteboard Animation successfully met all project objectives and was well received by the client.
Key outcomes included:
- Improved Accessibility: The simplified whiteboard visuals and narration made the EQ-TIPS framework understandable to non-specialist audiences.
- Increased Engagement: Interactive elements encouraged greater participation and data submission.
- Budget Efficiency: By managing narration and creative design internally, more resources were directed toward visual quality and storytelling depth.
- Educational Impact: The animation became a valuable communication tool for EuroQol, supporting presentations, outreach, and educational initiatives.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates our ability to translate scientific and medical research into accessible visual storytelling. Through a hand-crafted whiteboard animation approach, we brought the EQ-TIPS initiative to life, balancing educational integrity with creative clarity.
By merging custom design, strategic scripting, and interactive media, the final product empowers audiences to better understand and participate in global child health research. It stands as an example of how thoughtful animation can bridge the gap between complex data and human understanding.
