We were tasked with the production of a marketing video for the Palabora Mining Company, based in Phalaborwa in the Limpopo province. Palabora Mining Company is South Africa’s only producer of refined copper in a region rich with unique minerals like Vermiculite, which was the focus of this marketing video production. This video was done in collaboration with Sound Idea Digital, who aided us in filming and editing the final project.

Having collaborated previously on video projects with Sound Idea Digital, our teams were very comfortable collaborating. Our shared resources were carefully considered and allocated and our teams maintained a consistent channel of communication which ensured there was no miscommunication. By collaborating with an experienced agency we were able to produce the final video within a few short weeks to aid with the clients tight deadlines. In addition, both agencies have extensive experience filming in hazardous environments like a Vermiculite processing plant, which is an extension of a copper mine. This meant our teams knew exactly what equipment and PPE to bring to ensure each shot was taken as optimally and safely as possible.

What is Vermiculite?

Vermiculite or aluminum-iron magnesium silicate is a mineral that helps aerate soil while simultaneously retaining water and nutrients, which is then released over time. It plays a big role in seed sowing and propagation, making it a valuable mineral for agriculture.

Our team handled every part of the video, including writing the script. We opted for a professional voice artist to narrate the video, who was recorded in our in-house recording studio. This pushes the production value of the video which is an important consideration when creating a marketing video. All the design and motion graphics was developed by our in-house design team, which was streamlined through the collaboration with Sound Idea Digital.

It was an absolute pleasure working with the Palabora Mining Company. They helped facilitate every step of production and ensured the site and team members were ready for the shoot dates. They also assisted us through each shoot day with health and safety precautions and insights into their vermiculite production. This continued assistance aided us in capturing each step of their production as optimally as possible, allowing us to capture multiple angles and compositions of each process and machinery involved.
